President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Dallas on November 22, 1963, remains one of the most significant events in modern history. In this conversational overview, “You can't say Dallas doesn't love you Mr. President: Presidential Visits to Big D,” Dallas historian and educator Dr. Steven R. Butler details that fateful day in Dallas and goes far beyond it—chronicling the many presidential visits to the city from Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 to the present day, including the gathering of five chief executives in Dallas at the same time for the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in 2013. Steven R. Butler is an oral history participant and was a guest speaker at the Museum in 2025.
