Vacationing in the South of France in 1937, John F. Kennedy discovered this fragrance in a chance meeting with it's creator, Albert Fouquet. Kennedy was captivated with the scent Fouquet wore.
Fouquet kindly left a sample of the cologne at Kennedy's hotel with a note; "In this bottle, you will find the dash of French glamour your American personality lacks."
Shortly thereafter, Fouquet received a letter from Kennedy, who, having returned to the States, wrote to thank him for the kind gesture and tell him of the success his perfume was enjoying among his friends.
Kennedy requested Fouquet send him eight samples, "and if your production allows, another one for Bob."
