Last Second in Dallas is more than a long-awaited follow-up to Dr. Josiah Thompson’s significant 1967 book on the Kennedy assassination, Six Seconds in Dallas. It is also the colorful autobiography of a first-generation assassination researcher, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Six Seconds in Dallas and a unique chronicle of assassination research and debate over the years.
While revisiting his conclusions in Six Seconds that multiple gunmen in Dealey Plaza fired shots at the Kennedy motorcade, Dr. Thompson reveals new forensic discoveries and offers a detailed exploration of the acoustics and ballistics evidence. He concludes that two fatal shots from opposite directions struck President Kennedy in the final second of the shooting, hence the book’s title, Last Second in Dallas. In addition to a panel discussion in 2007, Dr. Thompson has participated in a series of oral history interviews with the Museum recorded between 1998 and 2017.
