Dr. Darwin Payne, a longtime Dallas historian and professor emeritus of communications at Southern Methodist University, was a reporter for the Dallas Times Herald in 1963. In addition to visiting Abraham Zapruder's office shortly after the assassination, he covered the events of that weekend, going to the Texas School Book Depository and Lee Harvey Oswald's rooming house in Oak Cliff. “Behind the Scenes: Covering the JFK Assassination” is his first book that explores his unique experiences on November 22, 1963 and beyond. Dr. Payne is a longtime friend of The Sixth Floor Museum, and he has participated in multiple oral histories and public and educational programs over the years.
